Greyhound Team Motto

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

(2 Timothy 1:7)

The Greyhounds were born out of the success of the 2007 Upward Knick team.  The team was a special one, and had a great deal of fun, so when David asked me if I'd be coaching in CYBA or something, I knew that the guys wanted to keep playing.  So we formed the Greyhounds, and we competed in the Show-Me State Games.

We didn't fare very well - but we had fun.  And much like the Knick team, the fun we had on the court was only part of the story, because the caring of this team made it special in so many different ways.

You see, during our preparation for the Show-Me Games, my father passed away.  These young men and their parents not only sent flowers to our family, but established three Upward Basketball scholarships in my Dad's name.

I think that's part of what made this team so special.  Consisting of 8 Knicks, 4 Spartans, and a Yellow Jacket, they came together as a team, with a great concern for each other and a wonderful team attitude.

These guys worked incredibly hard in their practices - brutal, 3-hour practices with lots of running and very little rest - and once we got to the Show-Me Games, they improved every game, before being eliminated by the eventual champions.  To this day, these guys and this team remain special to me.  Unfortunately, I have no team picture of this group of guys to post, but the image of every one of them is burned into my memory in an indelible, unforgettable way.

Guys:  there's no way to say it other than this:  I love you all.  You're the best.

Ladies and Gentlemen - I present to you the 2007 Greyhounds.
