I'm the adopted son of Jack Loyd Vancil (12-18-27) and Winnie Lean (Reel) Vancil (08-26-29): Dad and Mom (who, from this point forward, I will refer to as "Mom and Dad," because that's the way I always refer to them). I've never known my biological parents, and really, I don't feel any great need to - because I've already got Mom and Dad, and no sane person would trade them in for anyone else. I've heard about adoptions being bad, but I've never believed it, because I don't think there's any way that I could have been loved more than I have been by Mom and Dad.
I have a brother, Marty Randolph Vancil (07-02-68), who is also adopted. (We're not biological brothers - we're just brother brothers). He married and later divorced Sarah Jolene Poole, and they have a daughter, Sarah Jolene Vancil (09-18-91), who goes by the name "Jody." Marty married Gentry Larie (Early) Vancil (09-04-72) on April 2, 1998. Marty and Gentry also have two daughters - Anna Beth Vancil (01-03-03) and Elle Katherine Vancil (02-02-05).
Dad is a retired farmer, and Mom has been a housewife for most of her life. Marty is a farmer, and Gentry is a housewife as well as a volleyball coach at Holcomb.
My grandparents were Ernest Vancil, Sr. and Maud Vancil, and Jacob and Frankie Reel, all of Holcomb, MO. I remember both of my Grandmothers quite clearly, but don't remember my Grandfather Vancil, who died when I was less than one. Grandfather Reel died before I was born.
I spent the first eighteen or so years of my life living in the Bootheel of Missouri, on a farm between the towns of Holcomb and Campbell. Although Campbell is closer, and we had a Campbell address, we had Holcomb telephone lines, and lived in the Holcomb school district. I went to Holcomb Elementary, Holcomb Junior High, and Holcomb High School. I graduated in 1984 as the class valedictorian. I was quite active in high school, with everything from band to FFA.
I went to the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri for college. I graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. While in Columbia, I became active in the Bulletin Board Systems in town, and aspired to have my own - Tempest BBS which opened in 1992 and closed in 1998.
I'm single, a Christian (Baptist), conservative by most counts, emotional, sentimental, idealistic, and a bit of a romantic. I've not found the right lady yet, although I someday hope to, and hope to settle down and start a family here in Columbia (perhaps I should have said "hopelessly idealistic" earlier).
