How we met
Lloyd McKenzie was known by his signature
"Byte" on the BBSes. I met him in McDonald's one day when I
noticed a person wearing a shirt saying "Byte." I asked if he
was Lloyd McKenzie, and upon finding out he was, I introduced myself. We
didn't really say anything - we just sort of said "hello," and
then went our separate ways. This happened in 1987 or 1988.
What we do together
Talk technology, toy with computers, play cards, play
games
Funny story
Lloyd is a master of puns - some TERRIBLE puns. At cards,
"the Lloyd giveth, and the Lloyd taketh away." "Vengence is
mine, saith the Lloyd." Whether it be "cat" puns, or
"moo" puns, or any other kind of pun you can think of, Lloyd can
probably top anyone else.
Why Lloyd and I are friends
This is best described as a student learning at the feet of
the master - I'm the student, and Lloyd's the master. He is, without a doubt,
the greatest mind in the field of computers I've ever met. And he's no slouch
in other areas, either. Without a doubt, Lloyd McKenzie is widely acknowledged
as the greatest talent within our group of computer friends.
Now the strangest part is that Lloyd is very unassuming, and
very humble. He seems to like running ideas by other people - just in case he
missed something (which he never seems to do).
However, Lloyd has a very personable quality, despite his
rather shy nature. He's a devoted family man, with a wife and four kids, and
is very pleasant to talk to. I've worked with him in some personal computer
projects, and he's the same way there - quiet and unassuming, but constantly
brilliant.
Lloyd and Brad Morton served as co-sysops on my BBS. Lloyd
moved to Longmont, Colorado a while back, but he still remains a good friend,
although we don't talk very often. |
