Funny story
Every funny story about Dave is work related. Perhaps the funniest is the fact that Dave is the odds-on favorite to win the Halloween Costume contest at work, going as...himself. Our group always votes for Dave, even though he never goes in a costume. In fact, last year, in an attempt to garner votes, one lady dressed as a ghost...a simple sheet. Under the sheet, she had a Dave Walden mask - made from a blown-up version of a picture we took of Dave.
Why Dave and I are friends
Dave is all about being trustworthy. He's a serious person when circumstances dictate that he be serious, but he realizes that that's not 100% of the time. He's a professional with a sense of humor, because there's more to work than work, but regardless, the work's got to get done. He embodies the best qualities of technical expertise, while at the same time being a man of strong character, sensible and practical views, and quick wit. He's direct, he's honest, he stands by his convictions, and he makes no excuses. He might step on some toes at times, but only out of honesty, honor, and conviction. And his answers don't change depending on who he's talking to.
